- Must have Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related discipline, OR in lieu of specified degree, any combination of education and signal design and/or construction experience that equals four (4) years.
- High level programming language such as C++ or C#, Visual Basic, Digital Logic and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) or Microcontroller experience or course work is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- MicroStation or other CADD system knowledge is preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Must be highly motivated and detail-oriented and have the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The hiring range for this position is $56,369 to $70,461.
Summary of Duties
Under the direction of the Director, Signal Engineering, the Signal Engineer I will assist in the application of railroad signal engineering principles, processes, and procedures in performing design and detail engineering for implementation of wayside signaling and crossing installations across the Metra six-county region. This position is also responsible for the analysis and specification of signal equipment. Duties include assisting in the design of circuit prints for capital improvement projects funded by the FTA and IDOT; designing signal circuits for highway crossing warning system projects; performing CADD, MicroStation, circuit design and review, material requisitioning, QMP implementation, and estimating signal costs; assisting in the investigation and making of recommendations on reports of malfunction of signal systems or equipment; assisting field personnel with circuit design applications; designing new CADD standards and writing programming code to assist various CADD and office tasks; developing specifications for signal equipment; applying computer programs to tasks to promote efficiency and promote better tracking of signal operations for future planning; and performing other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
