I am happy to announce a new position within Community Engagement at the Chicago Department of Public Health.  The Director of LGBTQ Outreach (Public Health Administrator III) will help our efforts in engaging the LGBTQ community and implementing Healthy Chicago 2.0.  We are looking for a skilled person with at least three years’ experience in community engagement and relationships with the LGBTQ community, who has a passion for improving our city’s well-being and can work as part of a fast-paced team.

This position has primary responsibility for developing and implementing the department's community engagement efforts with Chicago’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. As a member of the larger community engagement team, the position also provides leadership and support for the department’s broader community engagement efforts, including implementation of the Healthy Chicago 2.0 plan.

  • Develops and implements plans and objectives for CDPH’s outreach to the LGBT community
  • Develops and provides LGBT cultural competency trainings for CDPH staff and external stakeholders
  • Works with LGBT Health Advisory Committee in planning and modifying departmental objectives
  • Develops special events for the Department around LGBT health issues
  • Serves as community liaison to LGBT community for department at community events and public engagements
  • Establishes and maintains linkages with health, social service and cultural agencies across Chicago
  • Prepares annual reports on LGBT Health and other communications as needed
  • Plans community events aligned with Health Chicago 2.0 - Partnering To Improve Health Equity Plan; contributes to the Partnership and Community Engagement action area within the HC 2.0 Plan; assists is community health fairs across the City of Chicago
  • Oversees delegate agencies in the administration of programs and the delivery of services to clients; develops scope of service for designated programs; provides technical assistance to delegate agencies.
Performs related duties as required.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Previous experience and relationships with LGBTQ community
  • Previous experience in community engagement with diverse communities
  • Previous experience in program management
  • Previous experience in community event planning
  • Previous experience creating and giving presentations to community stakeholders
  • Previous experience with writing descriptive narratives explaining events and actions taken
